We stand with Georgia in fight for justice and democracy!
As feared, the parliamentary elections in Georgia that happened this Sunday weren’t fair. Various instances of vote buying were noted, and the International Election Observation Mission pointed out that there were cases of “intimidation and pressure on voters”.
Even though the ruling party, Georgian Dream, proclaimed victory, it is evident these results can’t be taken as objective under these circumstances and are not the real image of what people want.
In order to protect their votes, Georgian people are protesting in Tbilisi outside parliament. We are strongly supporting Georgians in their fight for democracy and call on foreign authorities to take the necessary measures in order to correct these electoral irregularities.
Sadly this is not the first time in recent history that elections in Eastern Europe have proven to be rigged by the autocratic government. The happenings in Georgia show that democratic international communication should openly condemn dictatorial systems, as well as support and help those in the Eastern region who fight for just society and fair political processes.
Georgian people deserve freedom and democracy! ✊
