No to russian law! Solidarity with protests in Georgia!

Georgia’s democracy and European path is under massive attack. With the reintroduction of “Foreign Agents Law” (now cynically called Transparency of Foreign Influence), the “Georgian Dream” government has decided to turn the country into Russia-style autocracy.

In recent days we have seen unprecedented cases of violence against activists. Those active people and their family members, including their children, are receiving calls or threats. We have witnessed cases of physical violence against oppositional party members and activists by unknown (or government related) gangs. Hundreds of activists were arrested, and the majority of them were peaceful protestors. This level of raw violence is unusual for Georgia’s young democracy and people who are enabling it should be severely punished.

We call the EU, especially our Green and Progressive friends in governments and institutions, to swiftly sanction government officials, MPs, and others who are attempting state capture. Instead of waiting for consequences to unfold, it's time to implement preventative measures now to safeguard Georgia's democracy. Let’s help the people of Georgia to defend their democracy and not allow Georgian Dream to turn into Georgian Nightmare.
