Green politics and climate activism in Bosnia and Herzegovina
By the Youth Movement ,,Revolt”
This climate campaign was focused on getting youth from Tuzla municipality involved in climate activism and green politics, and giving them a base knowledge of relevant climate topics, in order to motivate them to get engaged with these topics and create impact. The campaign consisted of the following activities: Internal education for Revolt members, activist gatherings and sustainability-promoting activity, and a three-day education on the topics of green politics, climate activism, feminism and climate crisis through a gender perspective, art and climate crisis, green parties in the Balkans, and a workshop on how to create a successful campaign without funding.
Activist gatherings and sustainability-promoting activity which is called “Buvljak bez novca” (Swap Shop) and had the concept of people bringing their clothes, jewelry, books, and other items and exchanging them, while also sitting in a café and talking about climate topics, were very successful. Participants had an opportunity to talk about importance of sustainability and problems of fast fashion in an informal setting, while also taking some unique pieces for themselves and socialising with other activists. The activity took place in Café “Urban BeaTZ”, a local coffee place which has its own herb garden and often supports small businesses and volunteers. All the things that people brought but had not been taken, have been donated to people who participated in a fund-raising bazaar for support of Palestine.
Internal Revolt education and an activist gathering for members of Revolt resulted in their members gaining more interest and understanding of green politics and proposing some ideas for the future, while it also served as a form of team-building.
The three-day Education Workshop has given the most results for Revolt’s campaign. Workshop received 30 applications, and was held with 12 participants. The education went smoothly, and participants showed a great interest in the topics
